Academics
The MS in AI Engineering has core, concentration, and elective courses. The core courses are the same for all concentrations. Students should refer to the handbook for their concentration and elective courses.
Core class
Each student in all concentrations must complete 3 credit hours in FSE561 – Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Social Responsibility.
Additionally, students will be able to select from a variety of classes to complete 3 additional core classes. The categories for these classes are AI Engineering Foundations, AI Systems and Tools, and Data Collection and Evaluation for AI Systems.
The core courses are designed to give students a baseline knowledge of AI, while the concentration and elective courses are more focused on the student’s specific concentration.
Concentration and elective courses
Each student is required to take a specific number of concentration and elective courses. The concentration and elective courses can be found in the handbook under the Resources page. These courses were selected by the faculty in each school based on the topics that are applicable for students in the program. It is possible that the list of courses could change over time, so students should refer to the handbook frequently.
Culminating experience options
Depending on the concentration, students may be able to choose between portfolio, applied project, or thesis options. Students are admitted by default to the portfolio option. Selection of the applied project or thesis options requires consent of a faculty member approved to chair a master’s student in the MS in AI Engineering program. Please consult the handbook for more details.
